he massive winter storm that has swept through the midsection of the United States has left millions without power, food or fresh water. Texas has been hit especially hard, so John Wall decided to do his part to assist those in need.T
This past week, the Rockets guard donated more than 700 meals to Houstonians struggling with the recent loss of utilities and other necessities. Most of the food was given to people who were sheltered at a furniture store downtown. The Houston Rockets organization itself chipped in to supplement Wall’s efforts, handing out food, water and team gear to those in line at the furniture outlet.
Wall is no stranger to philanthropy. The former Wizard spent his tenure in D.C. working on several projects outside of basketball that would help his community. This past summer, his charity 202 Assist raised over $300,000 in a month to assist Ward 8 residents with rent payment during the COVID pandemic. As of this week, the charity has garnered a total of over $550,000 towards rent relief.
202 Assist was an offshoot of Wall’s larger initiative, the John Wall Family Foundation. The Foundation also donated thousands of N95 masks and meals to health care workers in Washington-area hospitals.
